United Way Tutor Training

Once again, the Center for Adolescent Literacies is partnering with United Way of Central Carolinas to host a face-to-face literacy training sessions to help volunteers, parents and agency staff members support at-risk children with reading skills. This tutor training session is scheduled for December 12 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at United Way. PLEASE NOTE – anyone interested in attending should - RSVP – Click here

The Center for Adolescent Literacies is conducting a workshop for Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte staff on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marsh Road Boys & Girls Club. The workshop, Helping Kids Succeed: Engaging and Supporting Learning Outside of School, is designed to provide tools to staff of the Boys & Girls Club who with with children in after-school and summer programs. Topics will include:

  • Improving reading comprehension
  • Supporting vocabulary learning
  • Utilizing writing-to-learn strategies
  • Fostering motivation and engagement

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte serve youth in after-school programs where part of the focus is on homework help and academic support. For more information, contact Bruce Taylor, Director of the Center for Adolescent Literacies.
